Azienda agricola Marzoli is located in Case Nuove - Civitella d'Agliano in the province of Viterbo.
This consists of 40 hectares, of which 12 are wooded, 10 are vineyards and the remaining 18 arable land, there are also warehouses, rural buildings and Etruscan caves, with vaults carved into the tuff, typical of the area. The 10 hectares of vineyards are composed as follows: 2 hectares of Merlot, 1.5 hectares of Cabernet Franc, 3ha of Grechetto 1.5 hectares of Trebbiano, 2 hectares of Sangiovese,
the type of rising is Guyot. In the arable land until 2018 there was wheat but with the spread of wild boars in the area there are no more cultures.
The company was purchased in 1998 by my grandfather Aldo Marzoli, as having always had agricultural funds in the family, he moved to Rome for work and decided to buy land near the capital. The choice falls on Civitella d'Agliano as my grandfather has long been a friend of Sergio Mottura, a winemaker in the area, knows the place and is fascinated by it and decides to buy the land. From the moment of purchase the Merlot, Trebbiano, Grechetto, Cabernet Franc vines were planted between 2002 and 2003, instead Sangiovese had already been present for at least 20 years.
A Sangiovese vinification was made in 2003 which was distributed to friends and relatives because the ownership was taken by other commitments in Rome. The company is then left in the hands of a family of farmers in the area who have always taken care of its integrity and decorum, raising and selling grapes, wheat and grazing animals.
In September 2020, after graduating in Rome and starting my studies in economics, I, Alessandro Civetta Marzoli, second grandson of Aldo, son of his eldest daughter, Francesca, wanted to take the company back in hand.
So from the 2021 harvest begins the production of our first two wine labels: “Athal”, igt lazio white, which is a blend of Grechetto and Trebbiano and “Aldanna” igt lazio red, which is a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot. The harvest was carried out in mid-September completely by hand by subcontractors, while the vinification and bottling is entrusted to the Trebotti farm, located 2 km from the vineyards, under the guidance of our oenolist Simone Carrino.
